Mercutio the cat

Mercutio the cat is the latest addition to the McBain family. He arrived on Christmas day, terrified by the evening fireworks...I saw the cat runnning like crazy in my alley way, I opened the bay window and he sprinted right inside.
10 minutes later he was napping on my stomach in front of TV.
I searched the web to see if there were a missing cat ad, looked around the neighbourhood. Nobody seemed to be missing Mercutio. He didnt seem very inclined to leave either. He wouldn't even go outside for over 2 weeks.
He is very sweet and cuddly (when it's not too hot, in which case he doesn't know you). His other names are Mothcat (because of the moth shaped spot on his nose) and Muffin.

Xmas event at the pet rescue

Like every 6 months, it was time to visit my favorite pet rescue again. Les Petits Vieux rescues older unwanted pets...mostly cats and dogs but they also have some goats and  poneys . You can see my post from last year here. 

I had 4 assistants while having lunch :)

This one is Cassis, I carried him around in my arms for a (long) while. He reminds me so much of my Pikachu. Well, if Pikachu had not been scaredy cat...

Wednesday favorites: one of my favorite places, a Pet Rescue

A different pick today. A pet rescue I visit twice a year. It is called Les Petits Vieux (The little old guys). The people there rescue mostly old cats and dogs (and other animals) that people abandon or  leave behind when they go to retirement homes or die. Once there the animals stay there until their natural death.

This is the cats area, a large enclosed field with wooden shelters...insulated, heated shelters. There are about 100 cats there. Most of them are cuddly so it is fun to sit on a chair and cuddle them...endlessly...

Yes, I am cat too, why do you ask?

The dogs are in another area. The "house" part. There are many galgos rescued from the Spanish death tracks, some dogs were rescued from puppy mills. They are all rather chubby now ;) 

It is extremely fun to sit there and cuddle some dogs for a change!

CREATIVE HANDS FOR GREEK ANIMALS IN NEED!

My friend  Anna from Annuk Creations loves animals, she has been helping cats in Greece. Here's a way you can help too.

The Greek Animal Wefare Society is organizing a Christmas Bazaar in order to raise funds for their wonderful activities of helping animals in need. As you know, dear friends, Greece is going through very difficult times, and of course animals are suffering too, since it is getting increasingly difficult to raise funds for helping stray and homeless animals, for medical expenses, food and neuterings!

***IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF YOU COULD HELP TOO!***
Even if you are living abroad, you can give your contribution for the Christmas Bazaar! You just need to get creative and create something handmade, or if you have something you have already created and that you would like to donate for the Bazaar, you can mail it directly to the Greek Animal Welfare Society! Any other items (in good condition) are welcome too!
Your package needs to arrive by the end of November. The Christmas Bazaar will take place in December.

Star Cat of the Day : GP

GP McBain (also known as Pounet) is the ultimate rescued kitty. GP stands for "grosses pattes" (big paws in French), as he has a strange disease that makes all his white cells accumulate in his lower limbs.
GP belonged to someone else but he occasionally came in the garden, I noticed him because he has a "bad" eye, he got wounded and it never properly healed. Obviously he was not much cared for .

He looked nice enough, not picking fights with my own cats. Then one winter I noticed that he was in the garden a lot, and that he walked funny...so I tried to to pet him and catch him to see what was wrong. Poor GP not only had this uncurable paw problem, he also had coryza and looked really thin and...well about to die really.

So I took him in.

The vet was not very hopeful, on top of his various health conditions, he also had a broken tail.

Well, we are now 3 years later. GP has good days and bad days, he sleeps a lot...but he seems happy, "I won the lottery" happy actually ;)

He eats well, and likes cuddles too...and he is the ultimate sunbeam napper :) But what I like best about him, is the way he looks at me with adoring eyes.

And the vet can't believe he is still with us!
